Gas cremator
€161
per cremation, all-in
- Energy / cremation
- €55
- Annual running
- €138,000
- Total over 20 yrs
- €3,210,000
Elektrisch cremator
€186
per cremation, all-in
- Energy / cremation
- €63
- Annual running
- €153,500
- Total over 20 yrs
- €3,720,000
With these assumptions, gas is about €510,000 lower over 20 years.

How to read the gas vs electric comparison
Gas cremators have lower purchase prices and heat up quickly, which suits sites with intermittent use. Electric cremators avoid on-site fossil fuel combustion for heating and can run on renewable electricity, but they generally cost more to buy, require a substantial grid connection and perform best when kept hot through continuous operation.
The calculator uses the same editable assumptions as our full cost calculator. Results are indicative only: energy prices, utilisation, maintenance contracts and grid connection costs differ greatly between sites. Request real quotations for both technologies to make a reliable decision.
Questions to ask suppliers
- Energy consumption per cremation at your expected daily volume
- Warm-up time and standby energy
- Required grid connection and who pays for upgrades
- Refractory lifetime and relining cost
- Emission performance and filtration integration
