How to compare cremation equipment manufacturers

Our comparison tool shows up to three manufacturers side by side, covering the technologies they offer, typical energy options, markets served, home country and reported strengths. It is designed as a starting point for your shortlist, not a final verdict. Specifications vary by model, and every project is different, so use the comparison to decide which suppliers to contact and which questions to ask.

The criteria that matter most

Technology coverage

Do you need only a human cremator, or also a pet line, a cremulator, filtration, heat recovery or a water cremation system? Single-source suppliers simplify responsibility and interfaces; specialists may offer better performance in their niche.

Energy options

Gas remains dominant, but electric cremators and water cremation are attractive where renewable electricity is available or carbon targets are strict. Check whether the supplier has proven references for the energy source you prefer.

Emissions and filtration

If your jurisdiction requires abatement, compare whether filtration is designed by the cremator manufacturer or a partner, and what emission values are guaranteed.

Service and local presence

Rapid service is essential. Compare the markets each supplier serves and ask about local engineers and parts stock.

Lifetime cost

Ask for energy, consumables, relining and service costs over twenty years. These often decide which proposal truly represents best value.

Comparing flame and water cremation suppliers

Flame cremators and alkaline hydrolysis systems are fundamentally different, so compare them on outcomes: capacity per day, energy and water consumption, emissions or wastewater, family acceptance, legal status and total cost. Many funeral homes in jurisdictions where both are legal offer both options, choosing one supplier for each.

From comparison to shortlist

Once you have narrowed the field to three to five suppliers, request detailed proposals using a structured tender so that answers are comparable. Visit reference sites, ideally where the same model has operated for several years. Talk to operators about reliability, service response, energy use and the quality of ashes. Then evaluate proposals on lifetime cost and quality, not purchase price alone.

Funeral groups should also consider standardisation: using the same manufacturer across sites can simplify training, spare parts and service contracts, and strengthen negotiating power. Municipalities must follow public procurement rules, but can still use this comparison to understand the market and write better specifications.

A note on independence

This comparison is independent. Manufacturers do not pay to be included, and the order in which they appear carries no ranking. Data is compiled from public sources and may contain errors; we welcome corrections. Always verify details with the manufacturer.

We continually expand the directory with additional manufacturers and more detailed data such as model ranges, certifications and reference installations. If you operate equipment from any listed manufacturer, your experience can help other buyers make better decisions.

Who uses the comparison tool

Independent funeral home directors use it to understand the options before contacting sales representatives. Crematorium managers use it when planning a replacement or upgrade. Pet aftercare providers compare pet cremator and aquamation suppliers. Procurement teams at funeral groups and municipalities use it to identify suppliers to invite to tender. Entrepreneurs starting a crematorium use it to grasp the landscape quickly.

Whatever your role, the goal is the same: a well-informed decision that serves your families, staff and community for decades.

Tips for a fair comparison

  • Compare equivalent models: a bariatric unit should be compared with another bariatric unit.
  • Use the same volume assumptions when asking for energy and consumable figures.
  • Check what is included: filtration, controls, installation, training and warranty.
  • Ask for references in a similar climate and regulatory context.
  • Weigh service response and parts availability as heavily as technical specifications.

A careful comparison at this stage prevents costly surprises later and helps you negotiate from a position of knowledge.
